项目概述

Primary Goals: To read widely from the body of contemporary UK environmental literature and practice writing techniques that nature writers employ in their craft. To walk on the land, for this is where one will find the heart of one’s own nature writing voice.

  • Learn through close observation and hands-on discovery in the field
  • Hike and paddle in beautiful natural areas of 苏格兰
  • Enjoy guided natural history walks as well as time for reflective journaling and independent rambling
  • Excellent background course for students interested in environmental studies

特殊注意事项

  • The majority of this course will be spent out-of-doors & 在半偏远地区
  • Physical fitness is important — outdoor activities will include day hikes (some will be long & moderately strenuous), canoeing, or kayaking
  • Travel days may be tedious and exhausting — lugging around bags, dealing with crowded conditions, 建立联系, 等.
  • Some meal preparation and clean-up will be shared by all; a spirit of cooperation & flexibility is essential
  • It is likely that there will be no connectivity for computers/cell phones for most of the program
  • Writing expectations for this course are high. Some writing will take place outdoors in adverse weather and will be done by hand in hardcopy journals; other writing will be done on laptops indoors
  • There is NO SMOKING in the field
